Monday 26th July SCREEN SECT: THE DEVILS (KEN RUSSELL, 1971)
Hysterical, overwrought adaptation of Aldous Huxley's 'The Devils Of Loudon', featuring ferocious performances from Oliver Reed and Vanessa Redgrave, and incredible set design by Derek Jarman. A frenzied orgy of camp imagery, sacrilegious setpieces and baroque torture.

Tuesday 27th  July MAKE IT UP CLUB

The Make It Up Club is committed to nurturing, presenting and promoting avant-garde improvised music and sound performance of the highest conceptual and performative standards, regardless of idiom, genre, or instrumentation. Whilst traditional forms of avant-garde improvisation are welcomed, MIUC programming policy gives priority to projects which challenge the boundaries of current musical trends and which are predominantly, though not exclusively, improvisational in nature.

Tom Hall will begin the night a performance of long-form instrumental blues ragas played on acoustic guitar and banjo. Lehmann B. Smith will sweat over short pop-style songs and odder, longer nylon things like acoustic folk music. Ian Wadley will close the show with his wonderfully fragmented electric guitar work and disembodied loops.

WINTERCOATS

Instrumental voids, crafty tunes, grand wanderings, all ranging from gentle to somewhat aggressive. Cuba is Japan are off to NZ in August. Pop Singles will be heading up the East Coast come September. Wintercoats, … not sure where they are going, but what an appropriate name for this time of year in Melbourne. Wear your winter coat to the show then take it off and throw it on the ground/sofa when digging the tunes at this hot gig.
